The museum celebrates continuing progress on its multi-year renovation and expansion project. The main floor of its historic 1916 building reopened in June of 2008, with European old master paintings and American art up to about 1900. And the brand-new east wing opened to the public on June 27, 2009, featuring European and American art from the 1800s to the present, including Impressionism, Modern and contemporary art, and photography. Admission to the museum is always free. Some special exhibitions have admission fees. CURRENT EXHIBITS: The Jewelry of John Paul Miller Through January 2, 2011 East Wing, Gallery 224 At once an artist, teacher, and craftsman, John Paul Miller personifies a lifetime of creative expression. The Cleveland Museum of Art celebrates this living legend and master goldsmith in an exhibition installation of more than 50 of his incredible works, including sketchbooks and drawings, spanning nearly 60 years of his illustrious career. Treasures of Heaven: Saints, Relics, and Devotion in Medieval Europe Through January 17, 2011 Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation Exhibition Hall Treasures of Heaven: Saints, Relics, and Devotion in Medieval Europe offers visitors a unique glimpse of the Middle Ages, a time when art mediated between heaven and earth and wondrous objects filled churches and monastic treasuries.
