With more than 3,600 acres, the Holden Arboretum is among the largest arboreta in the United States and well worth the 30-minute drive from downtown Cleveland.
Here, you’ll not only get away from it all, you’ll get above it all as well when you venture across the newly opened Murch Canopy Walk, a 500-foot elevated walkway built 65 feet above the forest. If that’s not high enough for you, the Kalberer Emergent Tower will allow you to climb 120 feet above the trees for breathtaking views.
There are also ore than 20 miles of hiking trails allow access to themed collections of trees and shrubs accompanied by groundcovers and perennials. More than 120,000 documented plants include rhododendrons, magnolias, maples, conifers, nut trees, wildflowers, lilacs, and viburnums, and they’re all sustainable choices for Northeast Ohio’s soils and climatic extremes. The attraction was also named an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society.
